What a Pretty woman Katy is!!!

9. Married to Katy Allen, a former homecoming queen at the University of Arkansas

Lyndsey Parker

“I am sad to be ending the “50 words or less” contest, as of July 22nd. If you entered the contest prior to July 22, your entry will still be considered. While I don’t blame ANYONE for wanting to go backstage and meet any or all of the top 10 Idols, I prefer my time and energy be spent on Megan’s Fans! “。
“I haven’t received a confirmation email from AI either and my daughter and I are shaking in our boots worrying the passes won’t be there tomorrow when we get there.
I went out and bought a ton of makeup to do my eyes like Adam’s are for the tour. I will probably end up looking like a clown and wash it all off. LOL. I’m making an Adam t-shirt tomorrow morning and putting a blue streak in my hair. If I don’t chicken out that is.
I experimented with dark blue nail polish yesterday covered in sparkles and liked it so much I never took it off. It’s so cool. And I don’t care who thinks it looks stupid on an old fart like me. LOL.
I am so nervous. REALLY nervous! And now after hearing that Adam didn’t come out to the barricades to sign autographs, I’m even more nervous. I hope he is all right.
OMG! I am meeting Adam Lambert in less than 24 hours! “

REALITY ROCKS: You are looking fantastic!

MEGAN: [posing] Oh, this is a video?

REALITY ROCKS: Yes.

MEGAN: Oh, I thought this was a picture! I'm all [poses]. So stupid! [laughs]

REALITY ROCKS: No, I'm not allowed to take pictures! They told us not to, to save time.

MEGAN: Oh! Okay.

REALITY ROCKS: So you're looking very Marilyn Monroe-esque tonight.

MEGAN: You know, my hair's curly for the show. I knew that everyone was going to be panicking [that her hair would not be done in time for the concert], especially the hairstylist, so I said, "I don't care, just get it going!"

REALITY ROCKS: I would imagine--as a girl myself, obviously!--that that would be one of the most fun things about being on the tour...the costumes, getting to dress up. Are you enjoying all that?

MEGAN: Definitely, it's really fun. It's new for me. It's not exactly my true style; when I do things after the show, it won't look anything like this. But it's definitely really, really fun.

REALITY ROCKS: So do you sort of have a dual personality, like "Casual Megan" and "Dressy Megan"?

MEGAN: Yeah, you could say that! Laid-back Megan and then super-glamorous Megan! Sure!

REALITY ROCKS: So a lot of fans want me to ask you...you just played your home state [Utah]. How was that? That must have been a blast!

MEGAN: That was one of the best nights of my life. I had almost 200 friends and family members there that even came back to the meet-and-greet afterwards. And tons of fans there, besides them. It was "my night."

REALITY ROCKS: Was there sort of a vibe of like, "local girl makes good"? Like, are you the hero of your town now?

MEGAN: Exactly! Yeah! They're really supportive, they said really super-nice things about me...it was great!

REALITY ROCKS: So when I last interviewed you, you weren't able to reveal the songs you were doing on the tour. But now we know what you're doing. Tell me why you chose those songs, which I think are perfectly suited for you.

MEGAN: Thank you! I chose [Corinne Bailey Rae's] "Put Your Records On" and [Amy Winehouse's] "Tears Dry On Their Own." I had to pick uptempo songs since I am a "starter." I really wanted to sing something slow to show off my voice more, but I've still gotta wait, I guess. But Amy, she's just jazzy, she's in-your-face, she's sexy and hip, and I was all about it, so that was fine. And then the other one, I just truly enjoyed doing it on the show, it pushed me along in the competition, so I've got serious love for it.

REALITY ROCKS: It's kind of ironic, because when you were on the show, weren't the judges saying you should do an Amy Winehouse song?

MEGAN: Well, I got both! Like, they told me to sing it--they said Amy Winehouse or Adele. And then when I sang it for them on a time when they didn't air it, they said, "You shouldn't do that. You should sway from the artists that you sound like." So I got mixed signals, and it was just stupid!

REALITY ROCKS: Well, yeah, the judges tend to do that in general.

MEGAN: Yeah.

REALITY ROCKS: Probably for good TV. But you know, American Idol is up for eight Emmys.

MEGAN: Yay!

REALITY ROCKS: I think this cast has a lot to do with that.

MEGAN: Yeah, yeah.

REALITY ROCKS: The Amazing Race has won [Best Reality Show] six times...

MEGAN: Six times?

REALITY ROCKS: This time, I want American Idol to win. I think you all should go and perform at the Emmys.

MEGAN: I think that would be incredible, and I know that we would all love to!

REALITY ROCKS: Yeah, I think that should happen! So, obviously this tour is going through till September?

MEGAN: Yep.

REALITY ROCKS: What are your plans afterwards?

MEGAN: Um, I want to make a few albums...

REALITY ROCKS: A few?

MEGAN: I want to make alternative jazz, I want to do children's music, and I want to do hip-hop and some bluegrass.

REALITY ROCKS: Hip-hop? The other things I knew about, but I didn't know about the hip-hop.

MEGAN: I love hip-hop so much!

REALITY ROCKS: That's a side of you that didn't really come out on the show.

MEGAN: No. But you know, the show didn't show, I'd say, good 80 percent of me. [19 Entertainment person tells me to wrap it up...boo!]

REALITY ROCKS: It's interesting because you say that you're sort of a "starter" for the tour. Is there any pressure in that, in way you're kind of kicking off the show? You're setting the tone--you and Michael [Sarver]. How do you do that? You're sort of...not the "warmup" act, but you're setting the tone.

MEGAN: Yeah, I'm a warm-upper!

REALITY ROCKS: What I mean is, you're the ones [you and Michael] that need to get the crowd going [because you perform first].

MEGAN: Yeah, well, fortunately, the American Idol crowd is pumped up enough as it is. They're coming and they're excited the whole entire night. But I mean, my songs are "up," I'm trying to get the fans up, I'm happy and excited, and I hope I can spread that vibe out to the audience. But for the most part, they already have that vibe!

REALITY ROCKS: But I'm sure you keep it going!

MEGAN: I try to keep it up!

REALITY ROCKS: That's great. Well, I'm going to let you go, but I will be in the audience, all pumped up tonight!

MEGAN: Okay, cool, cool!

Lyndsey Parker

REALITY ROCKS: So we're here with Scott MacIntyre, and I want to know how the tour is going.

SCOTT: The tour is fantastic. I have no complaints. I couldn't be happier. It's an amazing time, an amazing time.

REALITY ROCKS: I imagine--and I've said this to some of the other Idols--that on the show sometimes you're forced to do things that you normally wouldn't want to do...

SCOTT: [laughs] I love how you say "forced"!

REALITY ROCKS: Okay, so "forced" is a bit negative. You're asked, required...

SCOTT: No, no, we're forced. Just kidding! It's all neither here nor there.

REALITY ROCKS: You know, you have to do stuff that as an artist on your own, you would not do.

SCOTT: Absolutely. We kind of have to do...the producers have the last word on a lot of things, you know--sometimes including song choice. So it's really a tough situation to be in sometimes. But I love this tour because it's not about television, it's not about the drama or producing a television show. It's really about great music.

REALITY ROCKS: And it's about the music you really want to perform.

SCOTT: Yeah, it's about music, and the fans that have come to hear the music--it's really about connecting with them. And I think that's all what we came here originally to do, you know?

REALITY ROCKS: So when you were picking your own songs [for the tour], when you get your own mini-set, how did you go about picking the songs that would best represent you?

SCOTT: You know, I took a look at what I had done on the show, and what I was producing as far as my music--I do have a CD coming out in the fall, my first post-Idol CD. I was very fortunate to begin working on it as soon as I left the show. So it's about midway through production right now. I kind of looked at that and at the music I'm writing all the time, and you know, I really wanted to give people more of a feel of what they can expect from me as an artist, and as a songwriter, in the coming months. And so my set is a little more contemporary than what I did on the show, a little more edge to it. It includes artists like Keane, Vanessa Carlton. It's that type of vibe. The Gavin DeGraw/John Mayer type of feel.

REALITY ROCKS: I was very happy to hear you were doing a Keane song ["Bend And Break"]. I love Keane!

SCOTT: Yeah, it's a great song. I sat down and listened to a bunch of different music, and that song really stuck with me, just that soaring melody. I fought back and forth between a couple different songs to start off my set with, and I couldn't deny that that song was just very me. It was very Scott MacIntyre. It has a great, memorable hook; it's very beautiful. So I'm just trying to give people an idea of who I am as an artist without all these filters--without Country Week, without Michael Jackson Week, without Motown Week. It's very interesting when you try to make those genres work for your personal style. This is really the first time we all have the chance to show people who we are without all those filters and, you know, all those little twists and turns.

REALITY ROCKS: Tell me more about this album. It seems you might be the first of the top 10 to get an album out!

SCOTT: Yeah, it may very well be--we'll see. 'Cause I know Adam and Kris are both in very different places; sometime they're farther along than the other one. So we'll see who gets it out first! But you know, [my album] is a lot along the lines of artists I was mentioning--you know, that John Mayer meets Gavin DeGraw meets Keane. I've really always straddled that genre between singer-songwriter and pop-rock. There's always a little bit of adult-contemporary influence, but it's very piano-driven, very, you know, kind of hip. A lot of it is kind of very cleverly, sparsely produced. It has an acoustic feel to it, but I love, at the same time, the driving rhythms and the powerpop type of feel. It's all original music. I write a lot about relationships, sometimes about my challenges, sometimes about the last thing you would ever expect a songwriter to write about. But if you can spin it into an emotional three-minute song that's convincing, that means something, then that's really where you succeed and where you achieve. So I'm very excited to share it with people. You know, it's amazing to have so many people out there waiting to hear the music I write and the music I produce. But people can actually hear kind of some foreshadowing of what the album will sound like: I have some original music up on my MySpace. You can find it at myspace.com/scottmacintyre. That's M-A-C-I-N-T-Y-R-E.

REALITY ROCKS: Cool, I'll check it out.

SCOTT: I think you'll enjoy it.

REALITY ROCKS: Cool! Well, thank you so much, and have a great show tonight!

SCOTT: Thank you! Enjoy the show!
